Helena, Mont. (KTVH) – St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Mont. has been designated as an area trauma hospital.

Heather O’Hare, the vice president of nursing, said with this designation, the hospital will be able to better communicate with other area hospitals on what care a patient may need.

Other hospitals would know the level of care that was given to a patient. Then, if that patient went to another facility, he or she would be more likely to receive more efficient care, than if he or she came from a facility that isn’t designated, O’Hare said.

O’Hare said the hospital has been providing this kind of care for years, but it wasn’t until recently that the hospital worked on getting the designation.
