(MTN News-HELENA) Participating in sports outside of school can be challenging with a large time commitment. In this week’s Class Act, MTN’s Mikenzie Frost brings us a story of a dancer who says all the hours of practice are worth it.
Lyrical, jazz, contemporary, and bare are the different types of dance this Helena Middle schooler practices more than 4 days a week.
“I like lyrical because I feel like it is really graceful and I just love the choreography,” said 7th grader Maddy Romero.
Maddy and her dance team from Image Dancing are preparing for competition season in Great Falls, Billings, and Salt Lake City.
“I am most excited to dance with my team and to see the judges’ faces when we dance and put a lot of emotion into it,” said Romero.
A lot of time goes into preparing for competitions. “Sometimes we only practice for 4 hours.”
Between dance and school, it can be hard to balance everything.
“It is kind of hard because right after school I go to dance, go home, and then it is time for me to go to sleep.”
But at the end of the day, all the time and effort put in is worth it.
“Because I really like dance and I’m kind of shy at school but when I dance, I’m like really expressive.”
Because of that, Maddy is a Class Act.
