(MTN News-HELENA) A world renowned expert took the stand in the Joe Campbell murder trial in the morning of Monday, February 22.
The prosecution brought internationally known forensic pathologist Dr. Werner Spitz to the stand, who has consulted on many high profile cases, including the JFK assassination, the OJ Simpson civil case and the Jon Benet Ramsey case, and he is the author of a textbook known as the “Bible” of Forensic Pathology.
Prosecutors are hoping his testimony will be the information they need to convict Campbell of the 2013 murder of Tim Newman.
Dr. Spitz reviewed all material in the case, including the autopsy photo’s of Tim Newman’s body that was taken at the state crime lab.

Spitz also told the jury that it is his opinion that Newman was running away when the shot that severed his spin was fired. Testimony that directly contradicts statements made to investigators by Joe Campbell.
Joe Campbell says – “And then he went down on his knees with his elbows underneath him. I didn’t see a gun at that point. He’s kinda in that upper track. I shoot. A second time,” said Joe Campbell.
