(JANUARY 11, 2016) Brett Allan McDermott has been charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Bradley Alford Boland in Great Falls.

The body of Boland, 60 years old, was found on Friday afternoon. Authorities have not yet determined the manner or cause of death; the body was taken to the state crime lab in Missoula for an autopsy.

The Great Falls Police Department was called to investigate what it described as a “suspicious death” at a home near Whittier Elementary School on Friday.

Police responded to 308 8th Street North just after 1:20 p.m. on Friday.

The area around the home was blocked off as the Great Falls Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit began investigating.

Court documents filed on Monday state that McDermott walked into the school and reported that another man may have been beaten up; McDermott reportedly said that he could not feel a pulse on the man.

When police officers arrived, they found the Boland’s body inside the residence.

McDermott was detained as officers began their investigation, and later at the Great Falls Police Department, officers taped paper bags over his hands to preserve any evidence which may have been in his hands.

When the detectives left the room, McDermott reportedly removed the paper bags and “scraped the under part of his fingernails on his left hand,” according to court documents.

Detectives determined that McDermott was attempting to remove what he believed to be evidence that could be used against him.

He has been charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, a felony.

Court documents note that McDermott has convictions for partner/family member assault and criminal trespass to property.

Prosecutors requested that bond for McDermott be set at $25,000.
