HELENA- The Soma Jiu-jitsu Academy announced on their Facebook page they would be hosting free classes for women and young girls on Tuesday, July 12th 6:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m and on July 19th 6:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m.
The recent attack in our community at the Capital City Health Club is what sparked Soma Jiu Jitsu Academy to provide women and young ladies the tools they need to defend themselves.
20 women and young girls showed up to Soma on Tuesday to learn how to protect themselves. The skills taught were not to fight with a perpetrator but to remove oneself from the attacker and to get away safely.
“Especially for women, more often than not, they are the target of attacks. We’re not trying to win medals or ribbons, just training for everyday safety skills, trying to be safe people,” said, Seth Carkeek, Instructor at Guardian Jiu Jitsu Academy.
If you missed the first class, there is another session scheduled for the evening on July 19th same time from 6:00 p.m.
