(HELENA) A former Helena man is accused of stealing nearly $300,000 from his mother.

Kevin Vinson, charged with felony exploitation of an older person, appeared in Justice Court on Monday following his arrest in Florida.

Charging documents said between June of 2011 and April of 2015; Vinson took control of his mother’s assets while living with her, spending more than $292,000 of her funds.

Prosecutors said Vinson allegedly took the money from various accounts including a $192,000 insurance claim.

He allegedly spent the money on gambling, drinking, a car and a motorcycle before abruptly moving to Florida in January of 2015.

Bond in the case has been set at $300,000 and if convicted he faces 10 years in prison.
