CLINTON – A 32-year-old Lolo man is dead after backing an Audi off a cliff near Clinton.

The Montana Highway Patrol reported that just before 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday the victim was traveling on U.S. Forest Service Road 4241 off of Schwartz Creek Road when the crash happened.

MHP reported the driver was not wearing a seat belt when the vehicle was backed off of the cliff and tumbled down a steep mountain side. A 44-year-old male passenger, who was wearing his seat belt, was taken to St. Patrick Hospital.

Road conditions were dry at the time, and both alcohol and drugs are suspected as factors in the crash, according to MHP.
