BUTTE-Details remain murky in a Thursday morning shooting in Butte that left one man hospitalized.
The shooting, which was reported at approximately 8:30 a.m., was in the 500 block of West Galena St. in an apartment complex.
Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester said dispatch received a 911 call from a person who said their friend had been shot.
Lester said a 43-year-old man was shot in the chest with a handgun, he was taken to St. James HealthCare in critical conditions and later this afternoon his status was upgraded to stable condition.
“There was a male at the residence as well as a female as well as the individual who was shot. We are conducting interviews with them at this time, but nobody is charged or in custody at this time,” said Lester.
The detectives will investigate this incident to determine if there was any criminal intent or if there will be any charges connected to this shooting.
“When we’re finished with it we’ll submit the entire case to the Butte Silver-Bow County Attorney for review and see if there’s any probable cause to file any charges,” Lester said.
Some residents in the neighborhood were surprised by the shooting, many of them said they didn’t hear the shot.
“I had the TV on watching the flood in Houston, waking up and I had my box fan on in my living room and the TV so I didn’t hear anything,” said Ron Kish.
