HELENA- Lewis and Clark Public Health will be holding free lead screening clinics for East Helena Residents.

The free screenings will be at St. Peters Hospital on September 7th and 12th from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Residents will need to make an appointment in advance.

The purpose of the screenings is to help residents of the East Helena Superfund Site prevent health risks associated with exposure to lead.

Lead Education and Assistance Program Coordinator Jan Williams says that lead is prevalent in East Helena and unfortunately cannot be removed from all soil.

Williams added that lead exposure could have a serious impact on residents, especially children.

“There can be learning disabilities and behavioral issues such as aggressiveness or acting out,” said Williams.

Williams also warned that lead exposure could also cause high blood pressure and kidney disease in adults.
