HELENA – Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks announced Tuesday that Lake Frances in Pondera County will be closed for fire fighting efforts.
The lake located near Valier will be closed so fire crews can use the water to fight several fires in the area. The wildfires in the area are the Scalp Fire, Strawberry Fire and Crucifixion Fire.
The closure means all recreation such as boating, swimming, wading and fishing will not be allowed. Fire officials say this is for the safety of the public while aircrafts dip water from the lake.
The closure is in effect until further notice. When crews no longer need the lake for fire efforts, it will be reopened.
