HELENA – Over four hundred people gathered in the Capitol Rotunda on Monday to celebrate and recognize Constitution Week.

This year marks the 230th anniversary of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution.

The Constitution was signed on Sept. 17, 1787.

The event at the Capitol was sponsored by local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and included the ringing of the Montana Statehood Centennial Bell by local elementary students.

Jane Hamman of the Daughters of the American Revolution said that she was happy to see the crowd turn out and proud of the active youth participation.

“It’s heartwarming to see that we have young people that are learning our history and are able to stand up and speak about it,” said Hamman.

Constitution Week runs annually from Sept. 17 to Sept. 23 and has been observed since 1955.
