GREAT FALLS – Some C.M. Russell High School students are helping raise money to help those affected by the 2017 wildfire season.

Bailey Schimerowski and Gabrielle Pope have already raised almost $850 for the Montana Wildfire Relief Fund.

The two students thought of making t-shirts to raise funds for firefighters after noticing the amount of smoke in the air at the beginning of the school year.

They started the project through the school’s DECA club and covered the initial start-up costs through sponsors.

Friday was the girls’ fourth day selling the shirts; they say all proceeds will go directly to the Wildfire Relief Fund.

This was the girls’ first fire fundraiser, and they say they’ve learned a lot through the process and couldn’t be more excited to raise money to help those who protect our communities.

“It feels good, It was like Christmas morning all over again when we got our t-shirts. When we got the shirts we opened up the boxes and we were so happy to see all these cool t-shirts sitting there,” Schimerowski and Pope added.

The girls have a goal of raising $1,500 for Montana firefighters.

If you’d like to make a donation or buy a shirt, you can do so by dropping off a check for ‘Montana Wildfire Relief’ at the school’s front office or finance office.

C.M. Russell High School is at 228 17th Avenue NW in Great Falls.

The Montana Wildfire Relief Fund has raised over $450,000 from 1344 donations.

The money from the fund will be allocated to volunteer fire departments, fire districts and communities or individuals impacted by the recent wildfire season.

The fund was created by MTN and the Montana Community Foundation to help organizations, first responders, and communities affected by the 2017 wildfire season.

Volunteer fire departments across Montana are encouraged to apply. The Montana Community Foundation is also working with dozens of smaller community foundations across the state to identify organizations that could use the help. Organizers say 100 percent of the money donated to the fund will go to communities in Montana for wildfire relief.
