UPDATE (2:21 p.m.) – Sheriff Dutton has confirmed that one of the dogs shot on Friday has died. The other one is in surgery.

HELENA- A Wolf Creek area man is accused of assaulting his neighbor after the neighbor allegedly shot his two dogs.

Deputies were called to State Highway 434 about 5 miles northwest of Wolf Creek around 10:00 a.m. Friday.

According to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton, the two neighbors have been in an ongoing dispute over the dogs.

Sheriff Dutton tells MTN that they had previously been called out to the property and that the dogs had allegedly killed chickens in the past.

Authorities say that when the neighbor found the dogs on his property Friday morning, he shot them.

The dogs’ owner then went to the neighbor’s house an allegedly assaulted him.

The dogs were transported to a veterinary clinic. We have no word on their condition. The man who allegedly shot the dogs was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
