The MTN Montana Wildfire Relief Fund has crossed the $450,000 mark.

The fund is a partnership between the Montana Television Network and the Montana Community Foundation. The goal of the fund is to help those most affected by this summer’s devastating wildfires.

On Thursday the fund had received 20 new donations representing $2,435. The grand total now stands at 1,322 donations and $450,838.54.

MTN and its parent company Cordillera Communications matched the first $50,000 raised.

An anonymous donation of $50,000 was received, Carl and Kay Carbon matched $50,000 and the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch Fund and Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation also matched $50,000.

The Montana Shirt Co. contributed $25,000 to the fund. American Bank and PureWest Christies International Real Estate have contributed $10,000 apiece.

The Shopko Foundation and the Alice Lee Lund Charitable Trust have each donated $5,000.

The first round of grant applications for the Montana Wildfire Relief Fund opened on Monday.

Since then, the Montana Community Foundation said it has received 30 applications.

Many of the requests are from rural fire departments asking for basic firefighting necessities.

“It’s really amazing what volunteer firefighters do in Montana with incredibly limited resources. We have seen requests for basic fire gear. They’re using pants that have holes that they’ve been using for fifteen years that don’t protect them,” Jessica Stewart-Kuntz, director of operations and grants at the Montana Community Foundation, said.

The first round of grant applications are being accepted until November 10. To apply click here.

A panel of fire experts, Montana Community Foundation representatives and MTN staff will distribute funds based on need and relevance.

A second application phase will open later next month aimed at charities and organizations that helped individuals and families during the fire season.

Donations are still being accepted.
