HELENA-The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has scheduled four public meetings for the Black Butte Copper Project.

The DEQ is currently in the scoping period of the project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The four scoping meetings planned allow interested parties, including federal, state and local governments, the public and other groups to identify possible impacts from the proposed mine.

That input will be used to guide the EIS which will help determine whether additional permits would be needed for the proposed underground mine.

The DEQ has one year to complete the Environmental Impact Statement under Montana law.

The four meetings are:

  • Oct. 30: Great Falls Civic Center  6:00 to 9:00 pm
  • Nov. 1:  White Sulphur Springs High School Gym 6:00 to 9:00 pm
  • Nov. 6:  Radisson Colonial Hotel, Helena 6:00 to 9:00 pm
