BILLINGS – On Sunday a man was shot in the chest at a house party in Lockwood.

On Monday morning, Sheriff Mike Linder identified the victim as a 19-year-old man but did not release his name.

Linder also said in a press release that alcohol and marijuana were found at the scene, “although it is unknown at this stage of the investigation if they were factors in the incident.”

Yellowstone County sheriff deputies responded to the house party on Old Hardin Road shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

A witness left the scene as deputies arrived but returned a short time later, Linder said.

Another male had brandished a firearm and in the process one round discharged, striking another man in the upper chest, Sgt. Robert Lester said.

The injured man was transported to St. Vincent Healthcare and was in critical condition late Sunday. The victim was able to provide a statement to deputies before surgery.

No arrests have been made. Lester said the man who fired the gun has been fully cooperative.

All involved are either late teens or early 20s.
