MISSOULA – An aspiring Missoula musician made her national television debut Sunday night on the American Music Awards.

Maris, 18, is one of three “American Idol” finalists trying to make it on the show.

Her mom said it all started when Maris was invited to a private audition in New York City in October.

Maris was then invited back to audition in front of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.

Luke Bryan voted yes, and the other two voted no, which would normally mean Maris didn’t make it on the show. But each judge got to invite someone back that they thought should have another chance, and Bryan picked Maris.

Maris is now competing against two other singers and is relying on the country’s vote to push her through to the next round.

The winner will be announced Monday on Dancing with the Stars.
