BUTTE – Butte is hoping to green up the city and not just for St. Patrick’s Day.

The city’s Community Enrichment Department has hired its first arborist who will be responsible for maintaining the city’s trees and planting more trees around the city to develop its urban forest. Kathleen Humpa is from northern Illinois and has a biology degree from Northern Michigan University.

“The goal for us is really just to beautify Butte and make sure that we can do anything to make it look good and make the trees, I mean, there are so many benefits that the trees can provide us as a community,” Humpa said.

She also wants to get more people from the community involved in planting and caring for trees.
