HELENA – People in the Helena area will soon have a different place to go when updating their driver’s licenses.
The Montana Department of Justice’s Motor Vehicle Division is moving its Helena driver services office. Next week, MVD will leave its current location on Billings Avenue, in the Eastside Plaza near Walmart. The new office will share space with AAA, in their building at 2100 11th Ave.
“I know our staff is really excited to start providing services there,” said Tammy Stefanik, deputy bureau chief of MVD’s Driver Services Bureau. “They’ve seen the location, and they’re excited to do the best they can to help Montana customers.”
Stefanik said the agency has been planning the move for about a year. She said the new office will provide more parking, a better route for driving tests and more space for the examiners. She also said it will improve privacy for customers.
“Customers won’t be sitting right next to the customer next to them, so there’s less chance of information being shared and overheard,” said Stefanik.
The driver services office will close at noon on Friday, March 9. MVD will then move over the weekend and reopen in the new location at noon on Monday, March 12.
