Special Olympics Montana honors Tom Wylie as winter games begin

KRTV/KXLH Sports Director Tom Wylie was presented with an award at Showdown Montana on Friday morning.

Special Olympics Montana said Tom has been exceptional in his role with the program, which is why he was given the Special Olympics Montana Distinguished Service Award for Media Personality of the Year.

A nomination letter described Tom as being kind, dependable, enthusiastic, and admired by athletes and fellow volunteers.

After the opening ceremony remarks, the Flame of Hope was lit, kicking off the Special Olympics Winter Games.

The games were originally scheduled to take place last month, but had to be postponed due to weather.

Jamie Wood of Special Olympics Montana said all the participants love showing off their talent all year-round.

“They have a determination that’s really remarkable and when they have days like today to come out and show off their skills and their abilities, they take full advantage of it,” said Wood.

Showdown Montana is the host every year for the event.
