6.5 Earthquake in Idaho felt in Montana

A large 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:52pm in central Idaho approximately 44 miles west of Challis, close to the town of Stanley. This very large quake at a depth of 10km, which propagated energy and movement all the way into Montana. Many people have reported a prolonged shake of nearly 20 seconds that shook the ground, swaying objects on walls and hanging from ceilings. An aftershock with a magnitude of 4.6 occurred at 6:27pm also in central Idaho.
