A Billings man who reportedly absconded from his felony probation and parole was charged with two counts of felony possession of dangerous drugs after being arrested in Bozeman.
Stephen L. Sneeringer, Jr. 44, was arrested early Tuesday morning, after a Bozeman Police officer patrolling the parking lot at Walmart ran the license plate of the vehicle Sneeringer was driving.
The officer was familiar with Sneeringer’s name due to a tip that he may have absconded and was driving a BMW.
A search of the vehicle found three baggies of methamphetamine, totaling 82.3 grams and 17.2 grams of heroin.
Sneeringer could face up to $5,000 in fines and up to 5 years in prison on each charge.
In court, the prosecuting attorney told Judge Bryan Adams that Sneeringer has an "alarming, extensive" history of past crimes and convictions, many of which involve drugs. Sneering has three other drug convictions and a history of violating probation, so the prosecutor recommended a $100,000 bond.
Instead, Judge Adams set his bond to $150,000 due to the nature of the crimes.
Sneeringer's preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 31.
