GREAT FALLS – A man who helped design spaceships for the Star Wars movies presented in Great Falls on Saturday afternoon.
Colin Cantwell gave a short presentation at Kelly’s Komix before he met with fans of the films.
Cantwell is known for designing and constructing the prototypes of the Death Star, X-Wing Fighter, and the original Millenium Falcon.
According to Kelly’s Komix, he revolutionized the modeling industry by tearing apart model kits of cars, boats, and planes and re-constructing the pieces into objects such as the Star Wars ship models.
Cantwell said he has always been fond of different types of aircraft.
He worked closely with Stanley Kubrick to design space scenes for “2001: A Space Odyssey.” He also worked on the movies “War Games” and “Close Encounters of a Third Kind.”
