HELENA – YWCA Helena is welcoming a new executive director in its 100th year in Helena.

Monday was Jenifer Gursky’s first day in her new position.

Previously, Gursky was Helena Food Share’s development director, and the Montana Community Foundation’s program director.

She told MTN News her passion is empowering women. She brings two decades of experience to the YWCA, including working overseas with women who have experienced sex trafficking.

“When women do better, our community does better,” said Gursky. “We know that from the Grameen Bank in India, we know that locally, we know that in rural Montana. When women are empowered to be their best, our communities are their best.”

Gursky said she’s most excited to hear women’s stories of success.

While fundraising is a big hurdle for any nonprofit, she said she’s looking forward to the challenge.

According to YWCA Helena, they serve anywhere from 50 to 60 women each year.

Gursky is from Polson and graduated from University of Montana. She lives in Helena with her husband and daughter.
