After being postponed several months ago due to coronavirus, an effort by NeighborWorks Great Falls to beautify some properties is underway.

Wednesday was the first day of the organization's CommUNITY Cleanup. Through Saturday, volunteers will be doing things like weeding and tree trimming.

On Wednesday afternoon, volunteers were at the home of an elderly woman.

"The great thing about the cleanup is we can all be outdoors and we can make the event happen in a way that's safe for everyone. So it's great to be able to hold an event this year and to make plans with our neighbors and to do something out in the community,” said Chelsey Hutmacher, NeighborWorks Fundraising and Outreach Coordinator.

Great Falls Public Works Director Paul Skubinna said the event is also important because it helps keep trash out of waterways such as rivers and lakes.

“The cleanup event is a great opportunity for friends, neighbors, families, and local businesses to volunteer and feel good about having a direct, positive impact on their local water quality by collecting some of that waste before it ends up in our waterways,” said Skubinna.

NeighborWorks hopes to start having the event in the spring again in 2021. For more information, click here to visit the website.
