There is hope the Missoula Big Brothers Big sisters chapter could reopen with help from its sister agency in the Flathead.

The Missoula branch closed last spring due to financial difficulties but their partners in Flathead County have stepped in to host a fundraiser event for the Garden City branch.

The goal is to raise awareness, find new child/mentor matches and to celebrate success stories. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County Executive Director Todd Lengacher said the Missoula office had 84 viable matches before shutting down.

Lengacher says Tuesday’s event is the first step in reconnecting partnerships.

"We have just successfully launched are first couple of matches so it was time for us to really come out to the public and say we're here, we're ready and we want to be of service." Said Lengacher.

On average, an adult mentor meets with their match two-to-three times a week doing fun events such as skiing, gardening and bicycling. There are currently 55 matches in Flathead County.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County will host the event on Tuesday at KettleHouse Brewing Company’s North location from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
