The East Helena School District released its jobs for the upcoming East Helena High School.
“You name it, we’re looking for ‘em,” says Ron Whitmoyer, the East Helena Public Schools Superintendent.
According to the principal, there have been people applying but there’s still work to do.
“The number of applications coming in is lower this year than we’ve seen in previous years and I think that's just due to the competitive nature of the job scene in Montana,” says Dan Rispens, East Helena High School Principal.
Dan says emerging new high schools in Montana such as in Lockwood and Bozeman could be the reason for low applications. This follows the recent Montana economy trend of low unemployment rate which means employers are having difficulty finding qualified applicants.
“So, we want to bring in people who are excited to help us get that work done. Who’ve got creative ideas and are really passionate about helping kids achieve their dreams,” says Rispens.
The main theme of this high school is to have an open floor plan. As soon as you walk in through the main entrance. You’ll see the gym, and the cafeteria, and the library atop, and a stage. All this before getting to the classrooms.
“This is cool. These kids are excited about this,” says Whitmoyer.
“It’s really, for a lot of kids, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to have everything in their school environment just be fresh and new for them,” says Rispens.
“One of the really cool things is the open areas near the classrooms. So, it’s these open study areas where kids can gather where small groups of kids can work together,” says Whitmoyer.
According to East Helena High School, the students are so excited that they’re already working on a project. Like naming the student store, the “Haberdashery.” We’ll see how it all plays out in fall 2020 when the high school opens.
