A WINTER STORM WARNING remains in effect for the Rocky Mountain Front and the Glacier area.
A FLOOD WATCH is in effect for the Missouri River in Great Falls because of an ice jam.
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY is in effect for all of north central Montana into Thursday.
A WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect for areas east of the Rocky Mountain Front into Tuesday.
Arctic air has invaded most but not all of Montana. The Continental Divide is holding most of the arctic air off to the east, although some areas immediately west of the Divide are feeling the icy chill. Areas of snow have been falling for the last several days so roads will be snow covered and slick for much of the state. Another round of light snow will move through the state Monday night into Tuesday. A light accumulation of 1-3" is possible over the lower elevations. While the wind won't be particularly strong, because it's so cold there will be continual wind chill issues through the week. Arctic high pressure will move in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning that will clear out the clouds allowing temperatures to drop to between -10 and -30 for most of the state by Wednesday morning. Wednesday will have some sun but temperatures will remain very cold. Thursday, clouds will increase with areas of light snow moving back through the state. This is not a major storm and accumulation will remain light. Friday will have areas of light snow again but slowly the arctic air will retreat. West of the Divide will warm into the 20s and 30s, while areas east of the Divide will climb into the 0s and 10s. This weekend will be warmer with highs in the 20s and 30s under partly cloudy skies. While this airmass is not record breaking, it still will be prolonged and dangerous this week so please use caution and have that emergency travel kit in your car.
