Montana Outdoor Report: Beartooth Game Range

One family shares their favorite place to hunt in the fall in this Montana Outdoor Report.

“I don’t think you can have a more perfect scenario for hunting and harvesting, this is it. I’m Ronald Ries and basically, I’ve just hunted this area since the purchase, which was in 1971. And I’ve hunted every year except for probably three. We started going in with a team of horse and wagon and my daughter and my young son they have been up here ever since they were a year old.”

“My name is Brenda Ries. It was a big deal for our friends to go with us and they all thought it was pretty cool to go up there and take the wagon in and ride horses. And it was just fun to be out outside, out in the wilderness, enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.”

“[My name is] Debbie Ries, we are at the Beartooth Game Range. We’ve been coming here so long, it’s like home. Where we come to relax, enjoy the scenery and the elk.”

“The most draw for me is seeing the elk. Seeing the elk and the numbers of them and harvesting them,” Ronald said.

“So, to have the access to the public land, it’s wonderful. What a privilege it is to be able to continue on generation after generation,” Brenda said. “Even if after my parents were to leave, to continue hunting up there is a wonderful opportunity. We are blessed to have it.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says last year’s hunting season in the Beartooths was challenging due to winters late arrival and the success of this season will depend on snows arrival to the region.
