HELENA – Generous people from around Helena have already raised thousands of dollars for local charities as part of the fourth annual Greater Helena Gives day. The event kicked off Thursday evening at 6 p.m. with a party at Blackfoot River Brewing.

For the past four years, Helena Gives and the Helena Area Community Foundation (HACF) has held the 24 hour fundraiser to help support local nonprofits, like the Helena Food Share, Florence Crittenton, The Myrna Loy Center, Rocky Mountain Development Council and others.

Chairman Margaret Corcoran with HACF said this year 84 nonprofits participated which she said is the most they have ever had.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, Greater Helena Gives had raised over $22,000 dollars for a variety of charities. Corcoran said the event helps give the many non-profits in our area some much-needed attention.

“It’s a great way to encourage people to get to know the nonprofits that are in our community and give them a little boost in the springtime,” Corcoran said.

The fundraiser goes until 6 p.m. Friday. To donate or see how much has been raised so far, click here.
