BILLINGS – The man found dead Saturday morning on a downtown Billings sidewalk has been identified as a local transient.

Gordon Ray Harris, 62, died of natural causes and had previously suffered from heart problems, said Rich Hoffman, Yellowstone County deputy coroner.

Harris started living outside on the side of the Rimrocks about four years ago after he was evicted from his South Side apartment. He was featured in a 2017 Q2 story about surviving winters living outside in Montana.

“It’s just not bad because we got 30 below sleeping bags. It takes you about 10 to 15 minutes to get warm,” Harris told Q2 at the time.
