Chinese counterfeit bills discovered in Polson area

POLSON – Polson police say someone is passing counterfeit $20 and $100 bills in the area.

But these fake bills are unique because they are used by the Chinese to teach counting techniques. That fact is even written on the bills themselves in Chinese.

Police Sgt. George Simpson said they’re investigating three incidents where someone passed the fake cash off as real.

If you look closely, the writing on the bills translates: “Not to be used as real currency,” and “Bill to be used for counting practice.”

The fake bills are used by Chinese banks for training.

If you locate any of these counterfeit bills please contact law enforcement at (406) 883-7301 or in the event of an emergency 911.
