WHITEFISH – The body of a beloved Flathead Valley doctor and skier was recovered Saturday morning after he went missing in February.

Flathead county Sheriff Chuck Curry reports at approximately 11 a.m., search and rescue crews located and recovered missing skier Dr. Jonathan Torgerson.

Curry says Torgerson, 62, of Columbia Falls, was located in an avalanche deposition zone on the north side of the mountain.

It appears he was caught in a small avalanche on February 17.

The warming temperatures and snow conditions contributed to the successful recovery.

Out of the area K9 teams participated in Saturday’s search, and one of the K-9 teams was instrumental in the mission.

The Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank all of the volunteers who have contributed countless hours in this ongoing search to bring Dr. Torgerson home to his family.
