HELENA – As the Helena Brewers prepare to leave town for good, another baseball group is looking to jump in on their spot at Kindrick Legion Field.

Expedition League submitted a proposal to bring a college level team to Helena.

The Expedition League would mirror minor league baseball in many ways and aims to give top-tier collegiate athletes a place to gain exposure. Teams would play a 64-game season during the summer months from late May through the middle of August.

Steve Wagner, president of the Expedition League, said the league views Helena as the place to be as they expand operations into Montana.

“I think the community is the right sized community. Our baseball product, our entertainment is very family-friendly and very affordable for families, so I think it’s a good fit for the folks of Helena,” Wagner said.

However, Helena America Legion Baseball currently uses the field for its games and is concerned about sharing the space.

Ultimately, it’s the City of Helena’s decision whether or not to lease the field to Expedition League. Wagner said they have already secured a lease in Butte. Expedition League organizers asked the city to make a decision within the next 90 days.

The Brewers last home game is September 3.
