HELENA – Helena Public Schools leaders have chosen their next assistant superintendent.
Josh McKay, who is currently the principal at Helena Middle School, will take over the job on July 1 – the same day incoming superintendent Tyler Ream begins work.
Current superintendent Jack Copps said the district sent information about the position to every employee who had the required certifications for the job. Nine internal candidates applied for the job.
Copps said he and Ream interviewed all the applicants last week, while Ream was visiting Helena. He said they agreed that McKay, who has administrative experience in Helena’s elementary and high school districts, would be the best choice.
“He is well-suited to fulfill the position,” said Copps.
McKay has been principal at Helena Middle School since 2009, and previously worked at Helena High.
Copps said McKay will have a chance to spend several days working with outgoing assistant superintendent Greg Upham. Upham will leave the district at the end of June to become superintendent of Billings Public Schools.
