BILLINGS – Firefighters rescued a girl who slipped down a crevice in the Rims about a quarter mile east of Swords Park on Wednesday night.

The girl, who appeared to be in her teens, was walking with a group when she noticed a stray cat near the edge, Billings Fire Battalion Chief Ed Regele said.

The teen pursued the cat and slipped, Regele said. Her companions called 911 and firefighters and animal control officers responded.

Firefighters were able to lower a ladder and rescue the girl with little trouble, he said. She suffered minor scrapes to her arm that did not require treatment.

The incident was over by 10:45 p.m.

The cat was not located.
