HELENA – Helena Food Share is asking people to think of their clients and Grow a Row when out planting their gardens for the year.

The Grow a Row initiative asks people to add an extra row of fruits or vegetables to their garden that can be donated to Food Share when ripe.

From tomatoes to potatoes, any fresh produce is greatly appreciated for the organization’s Farm Stand.

Helena Food Share Development Director Daneal Lightner says they have been making a concentrated effort to help improve the nutritional quality of the food at the pantry.

“We what to be able to not just give them empty calories that they need to survive,” says Lightner, “But to give them the nutrition and the quality of food that they need to thrive and take on those challenges.”

This weekend was also Helena Food Share’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Helena area residents donated 19,103 lbs. of food during the drive with help from the local letter carriers.

Helena Food Share wants to thank the community’s continued support and the letter carriers for all their hard work.
