GREAT FALLS- Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks said a grizzly bear that had been wounded was killed.

FWP had been searching for the bear in the Marias River area west State Highway 417 near Shelby after it was shot on July 26th.

Officials said in a news release the bear was killed because it was not likely to survive its injury and out of concerns for public safety.

The bear returned to the prairie along the Rocky Mountain Front this summer after being captured an collared near Choteau last year.

According to FWP, it got in to unsecured chicken feed and dog food at one or more residences before it was shot near another residence.

The shooting of the bear remains under investigation.
