GREAT FALLS – Animal Control Officers in Great Falls have recently received information of domestic animals possibly getting shot with air guns within city limits.

Animal Control Officers are investigating two incidents they believe may be related.

The two incidents being investigated involve cats that were injured.

Since investigating these two complaints, ACOs have received additional information through social media sites that there may be several more unreported incidents of domestic animals being injured, possibly by air guns.

The GFPD said in a press release that this information is not confirmed and cannot be investigated without the incidents being formally reported to the Animal Control Officers.

Raelene Norton, the administrator of theGreat Falls Lost & Found Pets group on Facebook, posted this message on Thursday: “Several dead cats today, and several shot the last few days…When are people going to learn that not only is it ILLEGAL for your cat to be outside of your yard roaming, but it is very dangerous! If you love them keep them in and then they wont get hurt.”

If you have any information in regard to animals being harmed by air guns, or if your pet has been injured, you’re asked to call the the GFPD 406-727-7688 (option 5).

The GFPD also noted that social media can be an excellent resource, but it does not replace actually reporting criminal activity to the Police Department.
