HELENA – September 24th is National Voter Registration Day and officials at Lewis and Clark County Elections are reminding citizens to update their information before the upcoming general election.

The voter registration deadline for the 2018 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.

Voter registration forms can be found on the County’s website, obtained in person or mailed out upon request.

If a Lewis and Clark County resident misses the deadline they can late register to vote at the City-County Building on 316 N. Park Ave through election day.

Late registrants will only be able to vote at the election office and will not be able to vote at a polling place.

Elections Supervisor Audrey McCue asks that anyone planning on being out of town on election day to apply for an absentee ballot.

“We will mail out absentee ballots Friday, October 12 to anybody who signed up for them,” said McCue. “If you want to vote an absentee ballot and hadn’t signed up yet, you have until the day before the election at 12 p.m.”

National Voter Registration Day has been held on the fourth Tuesday of September since 2012 to help everyone have the opportunity to vote.

McCue would also like the public to know that there are planned updates for the processes for election judges this year.

“We’re hoping to make things a little easier for [judges] to open the polls and keep voters moving through the lines,” said McCue.

New Election Judge training will be held on Monday, October 1 at 5:15 p.m. in the Commission Chambers, 3rd floor of the City-County Building at 316 N Park Ave in Helena.

On Tuesday, October 2 at 9 a.m. or 5:15 p.m, Advanced/Chief Election Judge training will be held in room 426, 4rd floor of the City-County Building.

The goal of the training is to ensure new election judges and veterans alike are prepared for Election Day.

McCue added the county is also in great need of more election judges to work on Election Day Nov. 6.
