BILLINGS – The 111-year-old historic Babcock Theater in downtown Billings is undergoing a change for the better.
Renovations are now underway to get the theater ready to show major blockbuster films.
The city of Billings owns the historic theater and in January 2018 the nonprofit group Art House Cinema and Pub was chosen to manage the facility.
The 750-seat theater will begin showing films 7 days a week as early as mid-November. But not before this Billings jewel gets a little polish.
Volunteers are needed to clean the Babcock up and get it ready for opening night.
“We are looking for some people to help us with construction, if there’s people with painting skills, or looking for community service hours, we would love all the help we could get. The more hands on this space, the quicker the work can be done,” said Brittany Stevens, Marketing and Events Director of Art House Cinema and Babcock Theater. “Anyone wanting to wash walls, scrub seats, tear up carpet, major painting, demolition, construction. Anyone with a good eye for that kind of stuff.”
The iconic architecture featured inside the building will not be touched Stevens said.
“We do not want to take down anything that is the Babcock’s charm. We’re just going to shine it up.”
If you would like to volunteer to help with the renovations, head over to the Babcock Theater located at 2812 2nd Ave N. Volunteers are needed every Saturday in October from 9 a.m. to noon.
