Woman who died in custody at Butte detention center identified

UPDATE

BUTTE– The woman who died in custody at the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center is identified as Samantha Cagle of California.

Butte Coroner Lee LaBreche said there was no sign of foul play in the 30-year-old’s death, but officials suspect her death may be drug related.

Cagle was found unresponsive in a holding cell at the jail early Saturday afternoon. She had been arrested the day before on a probation violation.

BUTTE – A female inmate died while being held at the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center, according to Butte Sheriff Ed Lester.

The woman was found unresponsive by detention staff at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday. Efforts to revive her were not successful.

Detectives from Butte-Silver Bow and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death.

Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LeBreche has transported the woman’s body to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula where an autopsy will be completed.

The woman’s name has not yet been released.
