Coroner identifies Anaconda man as victim of Billings homicide

BILLINGS – The man shot to death last week on Canyon Drive in Billings was identified Monday.

The Yellowstone County Coroner’s Office said John Smathers, 25 of Anaconda, died from a gunshot wound on Nov. 21.

Billings police have released little information since the shooting but are investigating it as a homicide.

Another man, identified as a 30-year-old from Billings, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
