BILLINGS – Volunteers gave Head Start students some Christmas joy a week early.

Blankets and Bears works year round to raise money for the cause.

As many as 17 volunteers sew 10 months out of the year to create bundles of blankest and bears.

This year, Blankets and Bears had a special director, Cord Logan.

Cord picked out the bundle he made in honor of one of his favorite teachers, Kurt Kautz, who died in a car wreck two years ago.

Kautz was passionate about caring for children, and his family chose Blankets and Bears in lieu of flowers for his memorial.

Logan was able to present that special bundle himself to a child at Head Start.

“We donate to the children of Head Start or Explorer’s Academy all over Yellowstone and into Central Montana,” Sandy McCaffery of Blankets and Bears said. “These children sometimes don’t even have a gift to take home, or open at Christmas time, so this is going to help them feel warm, and safe, and loved.”

When asked about what it meant to him to be able to give this important bundle to someone who needed it, Logan said: “I felt joy to my heart.”
