BOZEMAN – The Bozeman Police Department has identified Sergeant Ben Green as the officer involved in a fatal shooting early Friday morning.
Bozeman Police Chief Steve Crawford said in a statement “Sergeant Green is a veteran officer with over 12 and a half years of service with the Bozeman Police Department.”
Sergeant Green is on paid administrative leave during an internal review of the incident, which Chief Crawford says is departmental policy.
The Bozeman Police Department says officers who were involved in or witnessed a shooting early Friday morning will have access to counseling.
Bozeman Police Chief Steve Crawford said the officer who shot and killed the man, as well as the six other officers who responded, will go through a critical incident debriefing. The man who called the police will also be offered counseling services.
“We will go through a process of making sure that all of the resources are there for our officers and the officers that were at the scene,” said Crawford.
“This is an extremely traumatic incident that they are exposed to, secondary trauma-wise. And can be very impactful, not only on the officer that had to shoot, but the officers in close proximity who have to see it or see the aftermath,” he said.
The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation is continuing its investigation into the incident.
