BILLINGS – On Monday, Fox News anchor Bret Baier and his family were involved in a “serious car accident” while vacationing in Montana.
According to a post to Baier’s Facebook page, Baier and his family were briefly hospitalized, but are now home. Baier will be at the anchor desk for his show “Special Report with Bret Baier” on Tuesday night.
The post goes on to say: “He [Baier] wants to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and wishes to remind everyone to always wear a seatbelt and to never forget what is important in life.”
News of the wreck was first released when Late Show host Stephen Colbert announced Baier, who was supposed to appear as a guest on his CBS show on Tuesday, would not make it due to the crash.
Baier had posted a photo on his Facebook page of his family skiing at the Yellowstone Club over the weekend.
Update: Baier released the following statement Tuesday:
“After a weekend of skiing with my wife and two boys in Montana, driving to the airport Monday morning on icy roads, we were involved in a major car crash. Thanks to a man driving by named Zach who stopped and helped, we were able to climb out of the flipped car. And thanks to the first responders and Montana Highway Patrol – we made it to the hospital quickly. We are very grateful to all of those who helped us out. My advice to everyone is to always wear your seatbelt and to count your blessings everyday. I tweeted this out as we left the hospital banged up, but alive. — ‘Don’t take anything for granted – every day is a blessing and family is everything. It’s always good to remind yourself of that before something does it for you.’”
UPDATE: Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Alexander Velasquez said Baier was driving a Jeep east on East Cameron Bridge Road around 9 a.m. Monday when he slid through a stop sign, and into the intersection of South Alaska Street.
The Jeep was hit by a pickup truck in the intersection, which forced it off the road, into a ditch, where it came to rest on its side, said Velasquez, who responded to the crash.
At the time, Bozeman was getting a lot of snow at the time and the roads were slick, said Velasquez.
Baier, his wife and his two sons were all transported to the hospital with minor injuries. In a statement, Baier said all family members were fine, and he would be back to hosting his show, “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Tuesday night.
