HELENA – Health Officials in Lewis and Clark County say they have seen a spike in recent flu cases this month.
State officials believe the county saw 116 new cases over the last reporting period. Nearly 350 cases since the season began in the fall.
Public Health Nurse Supervisor, Shelly Maag, stated, “I think the most important thing to do is number one, still get your flue vaccine. It takes a couple weeks for it to work and even if you get exposed and get the illness, it’s not as bad.”
Maag continued, “If you are sick, stay home. Get over the fever, get over the chills feel better before you go back to work or back to school because that’s what spread…when you’re around a group of people and one of them is sick, it spreads really fast.”
The Registered Nurse also mentioned that the best way to stop the spread of the illness aside from getting vaccinated and lots of rest, is by washing your hands. This act kills bacteria and cuts down the chances of passing on the disease from person to person.
