A plowed driveway could save your life

EVERGREEN – Snowy, unplowed driveways can cause a serious issue for emergency responders in the Flathead.

Evergreen Fire Marshal Ben Covington says this winter has been longer and harder than most and it’s taking a toll on first responders.

Covington says that when crews arrive at a call, many times driveways aren’t plowed or salted — and when seconds matter between life and death, it’s a serious problem.

“If we get stuck in a driveway, I mean if we can’t get the gurneys up to the doorways to get to a patient that’s you know having a heart attack. Or, if we can’t get our fire engines close enough to the fires that need to be attacked,” says Covington.

Covington is asking people to please keep driveways clear of excess snow and ice.
