BOZEMAN – The demolition of both gyms at Montana State University that had their roofs collapse is still underway this week, with the North Gym the main focus for now.
Crews knocked down one of its walls last week with the goal of taking down the north wall by the end of this week.
To do that, MSU officials say as of Wednesday, Grant Street is once again closed out of safety.
The university aims to have all three gyms, including the Upper Gym and the eastern building attached to it, taken down within the next few weeks, all while making sure the rest of the Marga-Hoseaus Fitness Center does not get damaged.
“We really want to be transparent with how we are working on this, how we are recovering from the loss of the gyms and throughout the removal process so we are trying very hard to communicate clearly with everybody affected by this,” says Michael Becker, MSU spokesman.
MSU officials say they are still unsure when exactly the demolition will be complete but will continue posting updates on their website.
