String of mail thefts reported in Helena, police searching for suspect

HELENA – On April 9, a suspect was captured on camera speeding away after committing a felony.

The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office is searching for the suspect tangled in a string of mail thefts from city to county mail boxes.

The image shows a partial license plate, 3-5669C on the back of a dark colored Chevy Z71 extended cab.

It was said that the suspect was described as a younger white man with a thin build.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton, spoke to MTN about the crime, “If you feel like you’re going to be receiving a lot of mail, maybe you wanna get a post office box. Now, this person is also prying into cluster of post office boxes that are clustered. Where we need help, is the neighborhood watch.”

Dutton continued, “If you see somebody doing something no matter the excuse, give us a call. They may say, ‘Oh, I forgot my keys.’ Well, if you forget your keys, you probably don’t have a pry-bar trying to get your mail box open.”
